Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa arrived in the United States on Saturday, days before a White House meeting with President Trump and just a day after Washington removed him from a terrorism blacklist. The visit, the first by a Syrian president since 1946, follows U.S. praise for his government’s cooperation on missing Americans and chemical weapons. Envoy Tom Barrack said al-Sharaa may join the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State. He previously spent years in U.S. and Iraqi prisons and renounced al Qaeda in 2016.
