After missing World Series for personal reasons, Dodgers’ Vesia says his baby daughter has died

Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia said Friday that his daughter, Sterling, has died, after he missed the World Series for what the team called a deeply personal family matter. In an Instagram post, he and his wife, Kayla, thanked the medical staff at Cedars Sinai Medical Center and both teams for their support. Dodgers relievers wore his No. 51 on their caps, and Blue Jays relievers joined the tribute in Game 6. He was not with the team in Toronto as of Oct. 23. The Dodgers beat Toronto in seven games, securing a second straight championship.
