Supreme Court issues emergency order to block full SNAP food aid payments

The Supreme Court on Friday granted the Trump administration’s emergency bid to halt a judge’s order requiring full November SNAP payments during the shutdown. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson paused the mandate until an appeals court weighs a longer stay, with her order lasting 48 hours beyond that ruling. The move could stop additional states from issuing full benefits, even as Wisconsin, Oregon, Hawaii and others rushed payments to recipients. The administration argues funds are limited and had planned partial aid. The uncertainty has left many low income households waiting, despite SNAP serving about one in eight Americans.
