UPS and FedEx will ground their MD-11 fleets 'out of an abundance of caution' at the manufacturer's recommendation after a fatal crash at UPS's Louisville Worldport. The move affects about 9% of UPS aircraft and 4% at FedEx. The Tuesday accident killed 14 people, including the three pilots on a Honolulu-bound MD-11, which barely lifted off before slamming into nearby businesses in a fireball. Investigators say a cockpit bell sounded 37 seconds after takeoff thrust was called; the left wing was on fire and its engine had detached. NTSB says a transcript will take months.
