President Donald Trump said he is considering exempting Hungary from U.S. sanctions on Russian energy as he met Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at the White House, calling the landlocked country’s situation difficult. Orbán said the exemption is vital and will present suggestions. Ahead of the visit, a bipartisan Senate resolution urged Budapest to cut reliance on Russian fuel and follow the EU plan to end Russian energy imports by 2027. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said he will sign a nuclear energy cooperation deal with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, including U.S. fuel and storage technology for the Paks plant.
