Deep red and swing states making election flip to Democrats indicate Trump’s plunging popularity

Democrats notched sweeping gains in 2025 off-year elections, flipping Republican turf from county halls to statehouses. Highlights included Zohran Mamdani’s New York win, gubernatorial victories in New Jersey and Virginia, a 24-point Erie County executive win, the ouster of Virginia’s longest-serving GOP delegate, and first nonfederal statewide wins in Georgia since 2006. Democrats also broke Mississippi’s Senate supermajority, took Onondaga and Luzerne county control, and Colorado voters expanded free school meals while Maine rejected voter ID limits. Trump blamed the ballot and a shutdown on Truth Social as his approval stood at 37%.
