Teammates poured off the bench as Binnington tucked the milestone puck into his pants. “It’s a special moment,” Ovechkin said, pleased to do it on a homestand with family and fans watching. He broke Wayne Gretzky’s record in April and had tallies Oct. 17 and a week later to reach 899.
