Before departing for his weekly rest in Castel Gandolfo, Pope Leo XIV stopped at the Basilica of St. Mary Major around 8:05 p.m. to pray at the tomb of Pope Francis, laying a bouquet of white roses on the marble slab. He also paused before the icon of Salus Populi Romani, then left around 8:15 p.m., the Holy See said. Earlier, at St. Peter’s, he celebrated a Mass in suffrage for Francis and other deceased prelates, saying the Jubilee gives the celebration “the flavor of Christian hope.” He previously visited the tomb on May 10 and June 22.
