Footage from 2020 and a similar 2022 event, published in Frontiers in Marine Science by biologist Erick Higuera, documents the Moctezuma pod's liver-targeting tactics, leaving the rest of the carcass. Scientists say the scenes align with South African evidence, though techniques vary, suggesting learned, group-specific hunting, and that warming seas may be bringing sharks and killer whales together more often.
