Majority of California likely voters say they support Prop 50, poll shows

Less than a week before Election Day, a PPIC poll finds 56% of likely California voters back Proposition 50, the redrawn congressional map that could net Democrats five House seats; 43% oppose it. Support is 84% among Democrats, 55% among independents, while 89% of Republicans oppose. Sixty-eight percent call the outcome very important. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who introduced the plan in August, is championing it as a way to “fight back” against Trump, with backing from Barack Obama, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Elizabeth Warren. The measure unfolds amid a widening mid-decade redistricting push in Texas, Virginia, and other states.
