Judge indicates she’ll intervene in fight over SNAP food assistance money

A federal judge in Boston signaled she will step in as the Trump administration refuses to tap billions in emergency funds to keep November SNAP benefits flowing. US District Judge Indira Talwani said the situation is an emergency and indicated she is likely to rule for Democratic attorneys general and governors who sued, possibly ordering use of the contingency fund. She warned benefits will be delayed and may be reduced because the fund holds about $5.3 billion, short of the $8.5 to $9 billion needed monthly, after USDA told states to halt November issuances.
