Satellite images reveal Hurricane Melissa devastation

With power and communications down, Jamaican authorities have yet to fully assess Hurricane Melissa's toll, but new satellite images lay bare widespread destruction. In Black River, a market's white roof has become a gaping hole, a cafe is gone, a warehouse roof vanished, and the fire station lost its top; the prime minister called it "ground zero." In White House, where Melissa made landfall with winds up to 185 mph, beachside buildings including Marva's and Pelican Lookout were razed and boats disappeared. Parts of Montego Bay resemble a brown swamp, with port facilities and a sports complex badly hit.
