Protests greet Trump amid South Korea trade talks

Protesters in Gyeongju greeted Donald Trump’s APEC-related visit with red cards, chants of “No kings” and a performance binding the US president in rope, accusing him of unfair tariffs and pressuring South Korea on defense. Justice party leader Kwon Young-kook said APEC caters to powerful nations. Even as Trump and President Lee Jae Myung said their fraught trade deal was “pretty much finalized,” Trump expected hours-long talks with China’s Xi to go well. Meanwhile, the Senate voted 52–48 to end Trump’s Brazilian import tariffs as the government shutdown reached day 28.
