Under orders from President Donald Trump, the refurbished statue of Confederate General Albert Pike in Washington has been reinstalled after protesters toppled and burned it in 2020. The National Park Service cited historic-preservation duties and recent executive orders in restoring pre-existing statues. District of Columbia Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton condemned the move as offensive and renewed her push to remove the monument permanently, calling Pike's service dishonorable. Erected in 1901 and long contested, the statue was the capital's only monument to a Confederate general before its 2020 removal.
