Greene clashes with Johnson on shutdown strategy | JQJO

On a tense private call, Speaker Mike Johnson sparred with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene over keeping the House out of session during the shutdown. Greene accused him of being out of touch; Johnson urged Republicans not to fire inward, blamed Democrats for the impasse, and noted Donald Trump’s rising polls. He warned the shutdown’s pain could hit “level 10,” citing potential losses in food aid, air-travel disruptions, and missed federal paychecks. Reps. Kevin Kiley and Dan Crenshaw also objected. While most Republicans back Johnson’s stance, Greene later pressed on X for a concrete GOP health-care plan.
