Flights bound for Los Angeles International were halted Sunday morning as the FAA imposed a temporary ground stop amid a staffing shortage at a Southern California air traffic facility. Planes headed to LAX were held from 11:42 a.m. ET, with average delays of about an hour and 40 minutes; the agency aimed to lift the stop by 1:30 p.m. ET while warning limits could continue. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said controllers working unpaid during the shutdown are increasingly calling in sick, citing 22 staffing triggers. Newark, Teterboro and Southwest Florida International also saw disruptions.
