On Sunday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Face the Nation that President Trump and Xi Jinping could “consummate” a TikTok deal when they meet Thursday in South Korea. After talks in Malaysia, he said the sides had made progress and that a “final deal” was ready for the leaders to seal. The September framework would give American investors a majority of TikTok’s U.S. operations, keep ByteDance below 20 percent, and license a copy of the algorithm outside Chinese control. What, if anything, has changed remains unclear. TikTok and Vice President JD Vance did not immediately comment.
