Larry Lawton called the crew “opportunists,” noting DNA left on discarded gear and the baffling decision to drop an Empress Eugénie crown. He and fellow ex-thief Joan Hannington argued it looked like an inside job and slammed the museum’s security and lack of insurance. Both described how stones could be broken up and smuggled, even ingested. Even George Clooney called it Hollywood-like.
