National Politics Boost Support for California Prop 50 | JQJO

California’s Proposition 50, a redistricting measure, leads as many voters frame it as a national statement against the Trump administration and national Republicans, whom they believe treat the state worse than others. Those seeing it as a state issue tend to oppose it, citing power shifts to cities and potential costs. Gov. Gavin Newsom is net-positive overall but galvanizes many “no” voters. Californians mostly oppose Trump’s deportation program, though many say border crossings have declined. The CBS News/YouGov survey of 1,504 registered voters (Oct. 16–21, 2025) shows majority backing in the heavily Democratic state.
