Arizona attorney general sues House over Johnson's delay in swearing in Adelita Grijalva

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes sued the U.S. House in federal court, demanding Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva be sworn in after winning a Sept. 23 special election. Speaker Mike Johnson, who has kept the House out of session since Sept. 19 amid a government shutdown, called the case “patently absurd” and said she’ll take the oath when the House returns, citing scheduling. Supporters say the delay blocks her decisive signature on a bipartisan petition to force a vote to release Jeffrey Epstein files. Grijalva says her constituents are being sidelined.
