Netflix to Distribute Mitchells Sequel with Sony | JQJO

Netflix will distribute the sequel to The Mitchells vs. the Machines under a licensing pact with Sony, signaling a collaborative partnership after the streamer acquired the first film for a reported $100 million amid pandemic delays. The original, praised for its hand-painted look, won eight Annie Awards and an Oscar nomination. Sony’s KPop Demon Hunters also landed at Netflix, becoming Netflix’s most-watched movie ever and prompting sequel talks. Producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, through Lord Miller, and Sony Pictures Animation’s Kurt Albrecht are on board, with original film’s co-writer/director Mike Rianda and Aditya Sood as executive producers.
