Cargo plane slides off runway falls into sea in Hong Kong

Two Hong Kong airport security staff died after a Boeing 747 cargo jet arriving from Dubai skidded off runway 07L early Monday, struck their patrol vehicle and pushed it into the sea, the Airport Authority said. The ACT Airlines-operated freighter, flying for Emirates as EK9788, ended up partially submerged, but all four crew escaped and there was no cargo onboard. Authorities are probing weather, runway conditions, the aircraft and aircrew; an ATC recording noted no reported technical issues before landing. Flights continued as a runway shut for checks. It was Hong Kong’s deadliest airport incident in over 25 years.
