Version History explores Sony Watchman legacy | JQJO

Version History’s third episode traces the rise and fade of Sony’s Watchman, the handheld TV set against the Walkman’s portable revolution. Hosts David Pierce, Allison Johnson, and Victoria Song revisit Sony’s 1982 launch and the device’s edge over Casio and Sinclair: a Flat Display Picture Tube that shrank CRT tech enough to slip into a church pew or a meeting. The Watchman endured for almost two decades before portable TVs faded, raising questions about isolation and a world filled with screens. The team invites feedback as new episodes take shape.
