Giants Near Hiring Tennessee Coach Tony Vitello | JQJO

Industry sources say the San Francisco Giants are closing in on hiring Tennessee’s Tony Vitello, 47, an unconventional move aligned with executive Buster Posey’s approach. Vitello, who led the Volunteers to three College World Series in five seasons after reviving the program, has no professional coaching experience; he texted that there was nothing to confirm, and the club declined comment. The Division I coach earns more than $3 million annually and could command a top MLB salary. The Giants also considered Nick Hundley, Brandon Hyde, Kurt Suzuki and Vance Wilson, and have multiple former Volunteers in the organization.
