Sam Rivers, founding bassist of Limp Bizkit, died Saturday at 48, the band announced on social media. “Today we lost our brother. Our bandmate. Our heartbeat,” the group wrote on Instagram, calling him “the pulse beneath every song” and “the soul in the sound.” Rivers met Fred Durst in Jacksonville, Florida, and the two first played together in Malachi Sage before forming Limp Bizkit in 1994 with Rivers’ cousin and drummer John Otto. Guitarist Wes Borland soon joined, and the lineup later expanded to include DJ Lethal.
