The Louvre Museum in Paris shut for the day after a robbery as the museum opened Sunday morning, France’s culture minister Rachida Dati said on X. She said she was at the scene while police investigated. The museum cited “exceptional reasons” for the closure. French media report that jewelry was stolen by three masked men who reportedly used a freight lift under renovation to reach the Apollo Gallery, which houses what remains of France’s crown jewels. The thieves reportedly smashed windows, carried chainsaws, and fled on motor scooters. The value is not yet known.
