Trump commutes the prison sentence of George Santos : NPR

President Donald Trump on Friday commuted George Santos’ more than seven-year prison sentence, announcing on Truth Social that Santos would be released immediately. Santos, a fierce Trump supporter, pleaded guilty in 2024 to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft; prosecutors called his conduct a “mountain of lies, theft, and fraud.” He began serving time in July at FCI Fairton in New Jersey. The House expelled him in 2023 by a 311-114 vote while he faced 23 charges, making him the sixth member ever removed. Trump defended the decision and drew a comparison to Sen. Richard Blumenthal.
