A 53-year-old staffer at Meadowridge Academy in Swansea, Massachusetts, died after a 14-year-old student allegedly kicked her in the chest while trying to leave a dorm without permission, officials said. Amy Morrell collapsed shortly after the Wednesday encounter; staff performed CPR and called 911 before she was hospitalized and pronounced dead Thursday afternoon. The teen was charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and arraigned in Fall River Juvenile Court. The cause and manner of death have not been released. The investigation continues as the school offers support services; a friend remembered Morrell as caring and devoted.
