King Charles and Pope Leo will pray together in the Sistine Chapel, officials say. Here's why it's historic.

Britain's King Charles III and Pope Leo XIV will pray together in the Sistine Chapel on Oct. 23, a first for the leaders of the Catholic Church and Church of England since the Reformation. The ecumenical service, focused on care for creation, caps a two-day visit on Oct. 22-23 that was postponed from April after Pope Francis's final illness, shortly before his death. Charles, visiting during the 2025 Holy Year, will be named Royal Confrater at St. Paul's Outside the Walls. With Archbishop-designate Sarah Mullally not yet installed, the archbishop of York will preside alongside Leo.
