Trump commutes former Rep. George Santos' prison sentence

President Donald Trump said Friday he signed a commutation ordering the immediate release of former Rep. George Santos from prison, citing Santos’ long stretches in solitary confinement and alleged mistreatment. Santos, sentenced in April to more than seven years, pleaded guilty last year to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft tied to a yearslong scheme. Senior White House officials said Trump acted this week after receiving overwhelming outreach. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who pressed for a pardon and contacted the Justice Department, argued Santos’ punishment was excessive; she said he spent more than a month in solitary.
