President Donald Trump said Friday he has commuted George Santos' prison sentence, ordering the disgraced former Republican congressman released immediately. Santos, 37, was serving an 87-month term after pleading guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft; he began his sentence in late July and was expelled from Congress in December 2023. A senior White House official said friends and allies urged clemency, and Trump read Santos' prison writings and his letter pleading for mercy. In posts, Trump compared Santos to Sen. Richard Blumenthal, alleged mistreatment and solitary confinement, and praised Santos' partisan loyalty.
