Luigi Mangione’s lawyers asked a New York federal judge to dismiss his indictment or bar the death penalty, arguing the Trump administration’s public comments have tainted the case. In a Friday letter, they cited President Donald Trump’s Fox News remarks, reposts by a White House–affiliated account and a Justice Department spokesman, and Attorney General Pam Bondi’s call to seek death. Prosecutors said the posts were removed and came from officials outside the trial team. Mangione has pleaded not guilty in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
