Susan Stamberg, first woman to host a national news program, dies at age 87

Susan Stamberg, an NPR "founding mother" and the first female broadcaster to host a national news program, died at 87, NPR said; no cause was given. She helped shape All Things Considered from 1972 and hosted it for 14 years. She later led Weekend Edition Sunday, launching its puzzle with Will Shortz, and served as a cultural correspondent before retiring in September. Honors include the National Radio Hall of Fame and a 2020 Hollywood Walk of Fame star. She is survived by her son and two granddaughters.
