Marwan Barghouti, the most prominent Palestinian prisoner, was beaten unconscious by Israeli guards on 14 September during a transfer between Ganot and Megiddo prisons, his family says, citing testimonies from five detainees released this week. His son said Barghouti, 66, was handcuffed, kicked and struck in the head, chest and legs, left bleeding and unable to walk for hours. The Israel Prison Service called the allegations false. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir also denied an assault but said he was proud Barghouti’s prison conditions had worsened; he was filmed taunting him in August.
