An early-morning confrontation in Cascais left one American dead and another injured. Around 3 a.m., a 34-year-old American walking to his hotel was confronted by three men; after he objected to one touching his hat, he was punched, fled, and called a 35-year-old friend. When the friend arrived, a suspect retrieved a knife from a car and stabbed both. The friend died at the scene; the 34-year-old is recovering and no longer in critical condition. Police arrested three suspects, charging a 23-year-old Portuguese bar worker with homicide, and ruled out robbery, terrorism, and hate crime.
