Tear Gas Fired as Kenyans Mourn Raila Odinga

Read, Watch or Listen

Kenyan police fired tear gas as thousands packed a 60,000-seat Nairobi stadium to view the body of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who died Wednesday in India at 80 after collapsing during a morning walk. Mourners had escorted the body on foot from the airport; when some breached the presidential pavilion, a stampede at the gates followed, injuring an unknown number as leaders remained locked in a room. President William Ruto declared seven days of national mourning. A state funeral is planned Sunday in Bondo, with a public holiday service Friday in Nairobi and another viewing Saturday in Kisumu.
