Donald Trump said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged in a call to stop buying Russian oil, potentially easing a tariff-driven stalemate in trade talks between the two countries. Washington in August added a 25% levy atop Trump’s 25% “reciprocal” tariff, leaving many Indian exports facing a 50% duty, with carve-outs for semiconductors, consumer electronics and pharmaceuticals. Trump said the halt won’t be immediate but that a process has begun. Brent crude ticked higher after his remarks.
