India’s foreign ministry said it was “not aware” of a call in which US President Donald Trump claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to halt Russian oil purchases. Trump, speaking at the White House on Wednesday, said Modi assured him imports would end “within a short period of time.” An Indian spokesman later questioned whether any call occurred, despite earlier statements that talks with Washington were ongoing. A White House official said Trump plans to speak to Vladimir Putin on Thursday, amid continued US pressure and new UK sanctions linked to Russian oil flows.
