Smoothie Cup DNA Ties Suspect to 1984 Killing

Nassau County prosecutors say a decades-old murder has cracked: 63-year-old Richard Bilodeau is charged with second-degree murder in the 1984 killing of 16-year-old Theresa Fusco, who disappeared after being fired from her snack-bar job at a Lynbrook roller rink. Investigators matched his DNA from a discarded smoothie straw; the indictment also alleges second-degree murder during the commission or attempted commission of first-degree rape. Bilodeau, arrested Tuesday after months of surveillance, pleaded not guilty and denies knowing Fusco. Three men previously convicted were exonerated in 2003. Fusco’s father said the indictment brings long-sought closure to a shaken community.
