Elderly woman killed by flying solar panel in Brooklyn as nor'easter hit NYC with strong winds

A 76-year-old woman died in Brooklyn on Sunday after a 41-by-87-inch solar panel tore loose in high winds from a carport over an outdoor parking lot during a powerful nor'easter. Found unresponsive around 10:30 a.m. on a Coney Island walkway near the Ocean Parkway Q train entrance, she was taken to Lutheran Hospital and pronounced dead. Inspectors said the panel was blown about 20 feet before striking her. The Buildings Department worked with the MTA to close the station entrance as strong winds persisted.
