Icebreaker deal and golf deepen Trump-Stubb ties | JQJO

Donald Trump and Finnish President Alexander Stubb showcased a warm rapport at the White House, centering on a plan to buy 11 Finnish-designed icebreakers, with four to be built in the US. Stubb called the project an investment in jobs and hope; Trump linked it to Finland’s proximity to Russia and the “ridiculous” war in Ukraine. Their bond, often nurtured over golf, has given Stubb outsized sway in Washington, observers say. Stubb has relayed messages from Volodymyr Zelensky and once told Trump he could not trust Vladimir Putin—remarks followed by Trump’s sharp criticism of the Russian leader.
