Strong potential nor'easter develops as East Coast prepares for stormy conditions

A mid-October potential nor’easter is forming off Florida and is forecast to ride the East Coast this weekend into early next week, soaking major cities and battering shorelines. Rain of 1–3 inches with 20–40 mph gusts is expected from the Carolinas to New England; coastal swaths could see 4–5 inches, 50–60 mph gusts, heavy surf, and damaging coastal flooding. Flood and high surf alerts run from Miami to coastal New England, with the highest coastal flood risk from Norfolk, Virginia, to Long Island. High wind watches are posted for southern Delaware, coastal New Jersey, and Long Island.
