Burkina Faso’s military government has refused to accept deportees from the United States, as the US embassy paused issuing immigrant, tourist, student and business visas in Ouagadougou. Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, speaking on state TV, called the move “blackmail” and said he repeatedly rejected a US proposal to resettle migrants from third countries. Applicants must now travel to Togo. A US diplomatic note cited Burkinabè nationals’ noncompliance with visa rules. While Eswatini, Ghana, Rwanda and South Sudan have recently accepted third-country deportees, Nigeria has refused, as the Trump administration seeks to deport millions.
