Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has appealed to the Supreme Court to halt a $1.5 billion judgment against him for falsely claiming the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was a hoax. Jones, host of InfoWars, was ordered to pay the sum after being found liable for defamation, emotional distress, and violations of Connecticut law in 2021. The case was brought by families of the victims. Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems, filed for bankruptcy after the judgment, and there are ongoing efforts to sell InfoWars.
