LA Firefighters Get Mandatory Extra Shifts Post-Fire | JQJO

Following a devastating fire, Los Angeles firefighters will now work mandatory extra shifts during red flag warnings. This protocol change comes after an after-action report criticized the Fire Department's handling of the Jan. 7 blaze, citing poor communication, inadequate resources, and ineffective recall processes. The report also highlighted leadership failures and delays in pre-deploying engines despite extreme weather warnings. Mayor Karen Bass announced these reforms alongside an ongoing federal investigation into the fire's cause.
