The International Criminal Court (ICC) has convicted Ali Muhammad Ali Abd–Al-Rahman, a Janjaweed militia leader, for atrocities during the Darfur genocide. This marks the ICC's first conviction for crimes in Darfur. Abd–Al-Rahman was found guilty of 27 counts, including mass killings and sexual violence, committed between 2003 and 2004. He faces a potential life sentence. The genocide, considered the 21st century's first, resulted in 300,000 deaths and millions displaced.
