Simi Valley resident gets over 8 years in prison for attempt to kill Justice Kavanaugh

A California resident, Sophie Roske, was sentenced to over eight years in prison for attempting to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh. The sentence, imposed by a federal judge, was significantly lighter than what prosecutors recommended. Roske had arrived at Kavanaugh's Maryland home armed with a pistol and knife, but surrendered after calling 911 and reporting suicidal and homicidal thoughts. The judge cited Roske's decision to abandon the plot before detection as a mitigating factor, though the Justice Department plans to appeal the sentence, deeming it "woefully insufficient."
