Assata Shakur, fugitive from FBI and Tupac’s godmother, dies in Cuba

Assata Shakur, former Black Liberation Army member and FBI fugitive, has died in Havana at 78. Shakur, also known as Joanne Chesimard, received political asylum in Cuba after escaping a New Jersey prison in 1979. Convicted for her role in a 1973 shootout that killed a state trooper, she was on the FBI's most wanted terrorist list with a $2 million reward. Her death was attributed to health ailments and advanced age.
