At least four people died and dozens were injured in clashes between protesters and police in Ladakh, India. Hundreds demonstrated demanding federal statehood, throwing stones and setting fire to a vehicle and BJP office. Police responded with tear gas and bullets. The violence, the worst in decades, stems from growing frustration over land rights and autonomy, despite initial welcoming of 2019's changes. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk called off a hunger strike after the clashes, highlighting the lack of government response to peaceful protests. Further talks are scheduled for October 6th.
