Scientists have, for the first time, observed endangered leopard sharks mating in the wild. Marine biologist Hugo Lassauce filmed a "threesome" involving two males and one female in New Caledonia. The 90-minute event, documented in the Journal of Ethology, shows two males sequentially mating with the female. This rare observation provides crucial data for improving conservation efforts and artificial insemination protocols for this endangered species, furthering understanding of their reproductive behavior and genetic diversity.
